Gov. Walker Highlights Regulatory Review Board in State of the State

Governor Walker focused on job creation and improving the state’s jobs climate in his second State of the State Address. As part of the efforts to improve the state’s job climate, Walker announced he was appointing new members to the Small Business Regulatory Review Board, which has the authority to review every administrative rule.

The Small Business Regulatory Review Board is created, and membership of it is defined in, Wis. Stat. 15.105 (33). The Board is attached to the Department of Administration, and includes 7 representatives of small businesses, who shall be appointed for 3-year terms, and the chairpersons of one senate and one assembly committee concerned with small businesses.

The Board is currently authorized by state law to review both existing (227.30(1)) and proposed emergency (227.24(3m)) and non-emergency rules (227.14(2g)). In his Address, Gov. Walker said he would, “direct our agencies to work with [the Board] to remove antiquated and unnecessary regulations that pose a threat to creating new jobs.”

The new members appointed by Governor Walker to the Board are:

Steve Davis – Co-owner, Ardy & Ed’s Drive-In, Oshkoksh
Erich Korth – Vice President, Transport Repair Specialists Inc., New London
Jim Ring – President/CEO, Park Towne Development Corp, Madison Kimberly Vele – Owner, Konkapot Lodge, Bowler
Thomas Wulf – President/CEO, Wulf Bros. Inc., Sturgeon Bay
